Plant & Sing is a 3-day event over Columbus Day Weekend to celebrate the culture of food: growing, cooking, eating, writing and singing.

Building on Plant & Sing 2010 and 2011 - this year will be family friendly and feature music, readings and poetry, singing, dancing, storytelling, harvesting, food events, activities for children, and eating!

A full weekend of culture and food events are planned:

A musical line - up of Shelter Island and East End musicians will play, along with many performers who appeared at Plant & Sing 2011 such as headliners Rufus Wainwright, Anais Mitchell, Straight Drive, and the Sun Parade.

Literary events have included readings of poems and stories, comedy, and a drama production of local playwrite Joe Pintauro's "Men's Lives."

After the success of last year's Contradance, we hope to host the Gawler Family Band back at the Havens House Barn for more foot stomping fun.

Food events will embrace the "farm to table" experience with cooking demos and master classes with notable chefs using local produce. All the while the kids will be entertained with face painting, arts and craft activities, games, animal tours. nature hikes, and a puppet show.

Proceeds from the Summer Festival will contribute to Sylvester Manor Farm and its educational programs, which connect the community with history, food and culture.
